One candidate claims the other has a “hideous hermaphroditical character, which has neither the force and firmness of a man, nor the gentleness and sensibility of a woman.”
The other candidate said his opponent was “a mean-spirited, low-lived fellow, the son of a half-breed Indian squaw, sired by a Virginia mulatto father.”
Yikes. Who says such things?

Yep. The US has a history of negative campaigning, candidate smearing, slander and more. So when we get down about our political rhetoric, just remember that in addition to giving us the greatest nation in the history of humanity, our Founding Fathers also gave us the negative campaign.
